Anna Leigh Ashford

Annaleigh Amanda Ashford has been an American dancer, actress and performer since the beginning of the 1990s. She began her Broadway career in musicals like Wicked, Legally Blonde and Hair. Her role as Essie Carmahiel in You Can't Take It With You as Essie Carmahiel won her the Tony Award in Best Featured Female Actress in a Play. Annaleigh Ashley, Tony Award winning actor and actress, has worked with directors, actors, and other performers on stage and screen for the entirety of her professional career. Ashford's next project will be a limited-edition Hulu series titled Welcome to Chippendales, created by Robert Siegel. The show premieres on November 22, and Ashford is starring alongside Kumail Najiani. Ashford's upcoming project includes the Searchlight Pictures horror thriller Dust, starring alongside Sarah Paulson and Ebonmoss-Bachrach. It will also be available as an Hulu Original on Disney DTC. Ashford's Broadway return is scheduled to take place in March 2023 when he is paired with Josh Groban for the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. The same team that created Hamilton producers Jeffrey Seller and director Thomas Kail will be at the helm of the show. Ashford portrayed Paula Jones, the main actor in Ryan Murphy's upcoming FX series American Crime Story Impeachment. The show is based on the crisis which swept Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky Linda Tripp as well as other main characters into the first ever impeachment proceeding in America in more than 100 years. She was also the lead in two seasons on CBS Comedy B Positive. It was created by Marco Pennette Chuck Lorre with the legendary Linda Lavin Hector Elizondo Ben Vereen. Ashford, who is not unfamiliar with Broadway won both Tony Drama Desk Awards as well as Outer Critics Circle Awards in her character in the role of Essie. Other Broadway credits are Sunday in the Park with George Wicked Legally Blonde and the originating role of Lauren In Kinky Boots a performance for which she received another Tony Award nomination. Ashford splits her life between Los Angeles & New York. Her birthplace was in Denver and grew up there.
